Dr. Amit Singh currently works as an Associate Professor of Law & Proctor-GD Goenka University, Gurugram. His first undergraduate degree is B.Sc. in Biosciences from Allahabad University, and his second undergraduate degree is LL.B. in Common Laws from Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Awadh University, Faizabad. His Master’s degree is LL.M. from Lucknow University with a specialization in Labour Laws and Public Administration. He also pursued and topped the batch of the Post-Graduate Diploma in Labour Laws and Personnel Management in the year 2001 from Lucknow University. He was the first-rank holder of the entrance examination for the prestigious M.Phil./Ph.D. integrated research degree in International Legal Studies of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi in the year 2003. He qualified for the UGC NET in Law in June 2009. He completed his M.Phil. & Ph.D. in Public International Law from the Centre for International Legal Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in the year 2006 & 2023 respectively. He is a highly qualified, skilled, hard-working, and dedicated legal academician possessing fifteen-plus years of professional experience in academics, research, and consultancy.
Before joining GD Goenka University, he worked as an Associate Professor of Law at the School of Legal Studies, Apeejay Stya University, Gurugram; where he was assigned the responsibility of handling the academic administration as HoD of the School.
He has served as an academic administrator in various capacities in his previous assignments, viz. Associate Head-Dept. of Banking and International Law, Faculty Convener-UPES-UCOST IPR Cell, Member-NAAC Committee, Member-Board of Studies, Faculty Convener-Faculty Think Tank, Member-Examination Committee, Member-Planning & Monitoring Committee, Member-Question Paper Moderation Committee, Course Coordinator, Nodal Points of Common Subjects, etc during his stint at School of Law, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun; Faculty Convener-Moot Court Society at Faculty of Law and Member-University Examination Committee at SGT University, Gurgaon; Proctor, Member-Disciplinary Committee, Coordinator (Sem X), Member-Moot Court Committee, etc. at National Law University (NLU) Jodhpur; and Faculty Advisor-Moot Court Committee (MCC), Mentor and Guide to LLM Students, Member-Board of Studies (BoS), School Quality Assurance Cell (SQAC) & Centre for PG Studies at SSLG, Jaipur National University, Jaipur.
Before joining the School of Law, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), he worked as an Associate Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law, SGT University, Gurgaon. He also worked as an Associate Professor of Law at Seedling School of Law and Governance, Jaipur National University, Jaipur for more than one year. He has served as an Assistant Professor of Law (Sr. Scale) at National Law University, Jodhpur, Rajasthan for around five years during 2010-15.
He has worked in Research and Consultancy capacities at various organizations and policy think tanks of repute based in Delhi/NCR, viz. Indian Society of International Law, Indian Institute of Public Administration/Ministry of Environment & Forests, Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations, MMTC/Ministry of Commerce & Industry, IILM Institute for Higher Education, Gurgaon etc. Professor Singh began his full-time academic career as a Senior Lecturer-in-Law at Law College Dehradun, where he stayed for a brief stint; before joining NLU Jodhpur.
He has been teaching Public International Law, International Governance, International Trade & Economic Law, Environmental Law, Trade & Environment, General Courses on Intellectual Property Law, International Intellectual Property Law & Policy/WTO TRIPS, International Investment Law, Constitutional Law, Human Rights, and Cyber/Internet Law, to undergraduate and postgraduates’ students during his vast academic career. He has guided eighteen Masters Dissertation of LLM Students during his academic stint so far. His academic interests lie in Contemporary issues in Public International Law, International Trade/WTO Law, IPR Law, Trade & Environment, International Economic Law, International Environmental & Sustainable Development Law, Corporate Law & Governance, Constitutional Law, and Labour Laws. He has more than a dozen research publications in SCOPUS/UGC Care indexed reputed Journals/Periodicals of National & International importance. He has participated in numerous National/International Conferences, Seminars, Training-of Trainers programme and Workshops, and has made presentations on various topics. He has delivered several Invited Guest Lectures at many institutions of excellence in India and has served as Resource Person in various Seminars, Conferences and Workshops.
He is a Life Member of the Indian Society of International Law, New Delhi, and a Member of the Asian Society of International Law, Singapore. Professor Singh is an Indian Member of the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law (CEL), Gland (Switzerland). He holds Membership in a few Specialists Groups functioning under the auspices of IUCN CEL, viz., International Water Law, Energy Law, and Climate Change.
