Prof. (Dr.) Purvi Pokhriyal, Campus Director, NFSU, Gandhinagar appointed as Chairperson of  The Indian Society of Criminology.

The Indian Society of Criminology (ISC) was established in the year 1970, with the objectives of advancing the study and application of Criminology and Allied Sciences, for the welfare of the society. It also endeavoured to facilitate cooperation among persons interested in the prevention and control of crime, which has escalated over time. Over a short span, the ISC developed into a pioneering National organisation, due to the cumulative efforts of its dedicated founders. The society was initiated by professionals, namely, Professor T. E. Shanmugam; Mr. Pitchandi; Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer; Mr. Pon Paramaguru, IPS; Professor K. Chockalingam; and Mr. K. Mani. Lately, this enterprise has extended and decided to promote Criminological education and advanced Research in the area of Criminology, and it is in this spirit that the Indian Society of Criminology (ISC) organises an International Conference every year, at different locations. A platform that has now become a major attraction for budding Criminologists, to shape their thinking and invite interest towards the interdisciplinary field of Criminology.

Prof. Srividhya Ragavan, VC IIULER Goa

Srividhya Ragavan is a Professor of Law at the Texas A&M School of Law and the Faculty Director of the School’s International Legal Studies Program. Ragavan is an expert on the intersections between international trade law with intellectual property rights. Ragavan’s books include Patents and Trade Disparities in Developing Countries (Oxford Univ. Press, 2012); Diversity in Intellectual Property: Identities, Interests, and Intersections (Eds., Calboli, Cambridge Univ. Press, 2019) and Intellectual Property Law and Access to Medicines (Eds., Vanni, Routledge 2021). The book was listed as one of Book Authority’s 12 Best New Intellectual Property Books to read in 2022. The book was also nominated by IPKat for the top ten Best IP Law books for 2021. She has authored numerous law reviews and book chapters on a variety of issues published in top law reviews. Sri Ragavan’s work can be found in the SSRN and BePress Page. 

Ragavan has the distinction of her work being cited by US Appellate Judge, Judge Jimmie V. Reyna, United States Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, in Aatrix Software, Inc. v Green Shades Software, Inc., No 17-1452 (Fed-Cir, 2018) and in a different matter being by the Chief Judge of the Intellectual Property Appellate Board, India, 2012 in a leading Indian decision Bayer v. Natco, (M.P.Nos.74 to 76 of 2012 & 108 of 2012 at p. 23).

Sri Ragavan has been regularly featured in op-eds in several media including the New York Times, Fortune Magazine and foreign media such as TBS eFM's "This Morning", an all-English current affairs program in Seoul. Similarly, she has been featured in Hindu Business Line, The Hindu, DNA, LiveMint and also the All India Radio. She has testified in support of India’s position involving access to medication issues with the US International Trade Commission and at the Office of the US Trade Representative. Ragavan is a regular speaker in forums that include academics, government officials and most importantly policy makers from the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Intellectual Property Association (WIPO). She was engaged as a specialist reviewer/consultant for the WIPO.

Sri Ragavan was the ADVANCE Champion of Texas A&M University in 2021-22. She was a recipient of the PESCA Grant in 2017. Ragavan was awarded the Student’s Access to Justice (SATJ) Association Certificate for Distinguished Pro Bono Service. Srividhya was a Fulbright Nehru CORE Scholar and a Fulbright Specialist for the South Asia Region.

Ragavan graduated with a BA. LLB (Honors) from the National Law School of India University in Bangalore where she was a merit certificate holder. Further, Ragavan received the Overseas Development Agency Shared Scholarship Scheme (ODASS Scholarship) administered by the Administration of Commonwealth Universities to pursue her LL.M from King's College, University of London. Later, Ragavan completed her SJD from the George Washington University Law School. Ragavan was the First Texas Instruments Visiting Scholar at the Center for Advanced Study & Research on Intellectual Property at the University of Washington at Seattle.

In her acceptance letter, while accepting the post of Vice-Chancellor Prof.(Dr.) Srividhya Ragavan stated that she would like the flexibility to collaborate with Global Universities and that she would also want the opportunity to lead the effort to determine the trajectory of the Law school in areas of importance to India first, and next of global significance while working with the Bar Council of India and the Hon’ble Members of different Managing Councils of IIULER which includes the Hon’ble Justices of Supreme Court and High Courts. She has also stated she has a monograph contract with Oxford University Press and some other Research committee with Yale Law School, University of Nottingham and with University of Hongkong etc., which will also benefit IIULER.

Prof. Yogesh Pratap Singh appointed as VC of NLU Tripura. 

Yogesh Pratap Singh received his LL.M. from National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore and LL.B. from the University of Allahabad. His doctoral thesis entitled “Contribution of Dissenting Opinions of Indian Supreme Court Judges to the Indian Legal System: A Critical Evaluation” is recognized as a significant contribution to the understanding of voting patterns of judges in the Supreme Court of India. This work was later published as book entitled “Judicial Dissent and Indian Supreme Court: Enriching Constitutional Discourse” by Thomson Reuters. Hon’ble Justice Dr. D.Y. Chandrachud, Judge, Supreme Court of India authored a scholastic foreword for the book. Dr. Singh served as Deputy Registrar, Research in the Supreme Court of India (on deputation) from May 2016 to October 2018. Dr. Yogesh participated in the 39th Annual Session on International Human Rights Law organized by International Institute of Human Rights (IIHR) Strasbourg, France. Dr. Yogesh wasalso part of Ciedhu programme in France conducted for University Teachers. Prior to joining National Law University Odisha in 2009, when it was established, he was part of the founding team of KIIT Law School, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar. Dr. Singh has also worked as a Legal Researcher in the Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra (RLEK), Dehradun. Prof. Singh has presented numerous papers on constitutional, social and legal issues at various national and international seminars. He constantly writes in the field of law in reputed law chronicles, national and international law journals. Dr. Singh also writes for the general public, contributing recurrently to The New Indian Express, The Statesman, The Tribune, Deccan Herald, The Wire etc. Prof. Singh worked as Vice-Chancellor In-Change from 28 September 2020 to 20 March 2021. Currently he is the Registrar of the University.
